All have senior and junior sections. Follow these links to see what they can offer: BAC DAC PAC PR WSPH WAC Dorset County Track & Field Championships The Dorset County Track & Field Championships are held in May each year at Kings Park athletics track in Bournemouth. You do not have to be a member of a club to enter but must be either resident in Dorset or have been born in Dorset to qualify. The youngest age group in the Championships is Under 12. A Quadkids (Under 10) event is held at the same time as the Championships. Medals and trophies are awarded for event and category winners. The 2026 Dorset County Track & Field Champs will be held on Sunday 10th May at Ashdown, Canford Heath. Wessex Young Athletes League UK Youth Development League Southern Athletics League South West Athletics League National Athletics League Team Dorset Youth Development League Southern Athletics League Team Dorset Composite Team The Team Dorset Composite Team is comprised of athletes from Dorchester AC, Poole AC, Poole Runners and Wimborne AC and competes in two track & field leagues: the UK Youth Development League (for Under 14s and Under 16s) and the Southern Athletics League (for Under 18s, Under 20s, Seniors and Veterans) UK Youth Development League Team Dorset competes in the Lower Age Group (Under 14s and Under 16s) of the Southern region of UKYDL for track & field. This is for Under 18s, Under 20s, Seniors and Veterans. Invitations for athletes to compete for Team Dorset come via their club managers. Team Manager: Dave Pearson Club managers: TBC (Dorchester AC), Jamie Grose (Poole AC), Lea Short (Poole Runners), Dave Pearson (Wimborne AC). 2026 fixtures: Saturday 16th May (Poole) Sunday 21th June (Aldershot) Sunday 19th July (Andover) Saturday 8th August (Aldershot) About the SAL Wessex Young Athletes Track & Field League The Wessex League is one of the main opportunities for young athletes in the county to compete in track & field. The league includes clubs from Dorset, Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey and Wiltshire with 24 clubs taking part in 2025. Each club competes in four fixtures typically from April to July. Athletes compete in age groups: Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 with Under 20s able to take part as non-scorers. All participation is arranged via member clubs. Five of the six of Dorset's T&F clubs compete in the Wessex League. Find out more UK Youth Development League In January 2013, through an initiative set up by UK Athletics, the existing National Junior Athletic League and the National Young Athletics League amalgamated to form the UK Youth Development League for athletes under 20 years of age. The League is divided geographically (Northern, Midland and Southern) and by age group (Lower Age Group for Under 14/Under 16 and Upper Age Group for Under 18/Under 20). In 2026 Team Dorset and Bournemouth AC will compete in Division 1B of the Southern Region for the Lower Age Group. Bournemouth AC will also competes in Division 1E of the Southern Region of the Upper Age Group. Info on UK YDL South West Athletics League The South West Athletics League comprises clubs from across the counties of the south west of England. Typically four fixtures take place across the track & field season, all at Exeter Harrier's track in Exeter. Competition takes place in age groups from Under 14 through to Senior/Veteran. Dorchester, Poole AC, Poole Runners and Wimborne AC currently participate in this league. Info on SWAL Southern Athletics League The Southern Athletics League is the area track & field league for clubs in the South of England Athletics Association region that wish compete with joint male and female teams of Under 18, Under 20 and Seniors/Veterans. The league is divided into three divisions, each of which has sub-divisions by geography. For 2026 clubs will compete in four fixtures spread across the season. Bournemouth AC competes in Division 2 South West and Team Dorset in Division 3 West of the SAL. Info on SAL National Athletics League The National Athletics League includes many of the top track & field clubs from across the whole of the United Kingdom. Established in 2019, the league has 32 member clubs. There are two divisions: the Premiership involving eight clubs and the Championship with 24 clubs. The Championship is itself split into four regions (North, South, East and West) each comprised of six clubs. Bournemouth AC competes in the Championship Division West. Info on NAL

Cross Country Dorset Wessex Cross Country League Dorset County Cross Country Champs Cross Country Dorset is a great place to race cross country Whether you are an old hand or have never run cross country before you will be well served by joining one of Dorset's athletics clubs. Most of them take part in cross country racing, notably the Wessex Cross Country League. Many also travel further afield to race at events such as the South West, Southern and National Cross Country championships. Here are links to some of the Dorset clubs in the county that take part in cross country races: BAC DAC PAC PR WSPH WAC For information on schools cross country competitions please visit the Dorset Schools Athletic Association DSAA Wessex Cross Country League The Wessex League is a series of cross country races held across the Wessex area from October to December each year. Entries can be made individually or via an athletics club. Race distances vary from 1.5 km for Under 11s up to 10 km for seniors and veterans. Prizes are awarded at the end of the series for individual and team winners in all categories. The first race of the 2025/26 season is on 26th October at Learoyd Road, Poole. Click to enter Results 2024 Results 2023 Hampshire Cross Country League Many of our Dorset-based clubs compete in the neighbouring Hampshire Cross Country League. This gives athletes the opportunity to race on different courses and against runners from a wider variety of clubs. The League comprises five or six races spread across the autumn and winter. Entries are made via league-affiliated clubs. Click here for a link to the League website: Find out more UK Intercounties Cross Country Championships The best of Dorset's cross country runners have the opportunity to pull on the green Dorset vest and compete for their county each year at the UK Intercounties Cross Country Championships. This is one of the largest and probably the highest quality fixture in the cross country calendar with competitors from most of the counties in the UK. Age categories include Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, Under 20 and Senior (incorporating veteran). Selections for the teams are made by Dorset managers in January and February based partly on the top finishers at the Dorset County Championships and partly on other results from across the season. DRRL Dorset Road Race League Road Racing Dorset Road Racing Poole Road Racing Bournemouth Road Racing Wimborne Road Racing West Dorset Road Racing A vibrant road racing calendar There are many opportunities to race on the road throughout the year and across the county of Dorset. Races vary from 5 km up to marathon distance. You will need to enter these races individually but you will find a strong club feel at all events so if you have yet to join a club it is worth doing so. 12 races are brought together each year to form the Dorset Road Race League for which overall individual and team prizes are awarded at the end of the season. Four of these races also serve as the Dorset County Championship events for 10 km, 10 mile, half marathon and marathon distances. Dorset Road Race League The Dorset Road Race League (DRRL) is the main competitive road running league of 12 selected races of varying distances across the county each year. The races are usually selected and announced in the preceding October and are of a mix of distances, usually from 5 miles to a marathon and spread equally across the county. Age restrictions apply and Under 17s are only allowed to race over distances of 10 km or less. League points are automatically awarded to club members who are also registered EA athletes. You can win individual age category prizes and represent your club for team prizes. About the DRRL 2023 results Dorset Road Race League Dorset County Road Race Championships The Dorset County Championships are held at four road races to cover four discrete distances: 10 km, 10 miles, half marathon and marathon. To qualify for any of these Championship races you must either be currently resident in Dorset or be born in Dorset. You must also make a separate Championship entry as well as enter the race itself. For each Championship race prizes are awarded to the first three males and females (irrespective of age) and the first three males and females who are 40 or over on race day. Find out more
