Road Racing

A vibrant road racing calendar

There are many opportunities to race on the road throughout the year and across the county of Dorset.  Races vary from 5 km up to marathon distance.  You will need to enter these races individually but you will find a strong club feel at all events so if you have yet to join a club it is worth doing so.  12 races are brought together each year to form the Dorset Road Race League for which overall individual and team prizes are awarded at the end of the season.  Four of these races also serve as the Dorset County Championship events for 10 km, 10 mile, half marathon and marathon distances.

Dorset Road Race League

The Dorset Road Race League (DRRL) is the main competitive road running league of 12 selected races of varying distances across the county each year.  The races are usually selected and announced in the preceding October and are of a mix of distances, usually from 5 miles to a marathon and spread equally across the county.  Age restrictions apply and Under 17s are only allowed to race over distances of 10 km or less.  League points are automatically awarded to club members who are also registered EA athletes.  You can win individual age category prizes and represent your club for team prizes.

Dorset County Road Race Championships

The Dorset County Championships are held at four road races to cover four discrete distances: 10 km, 10 miles, half marathon and marathon.  To qualify for any of these Championship races you must either be currently resident in Dorset or be born in Dorset.  You must also make a separate Championship entry as well as enter the race itself.  For each Championship race prizes are awarded to the first three males and females (irrespective of age) and the first three males and females who are 40 or over on race day.
